Getting Started

Once you have printed out the online lessons for your modules, put them all into a 3-ring binder. The following will outline your preliminary preparation and other critical items to keep in mind so that you know what to expect out of this internet business course. Be sure to read through this entire page before proceeding.

Guidelines for This Internet Business Course

You are entering into a very exciting and demanding adventure that we trust will turn into a successful business enterprise.

In the transition of moving from where you are now to an online business there will be many changes that need to occur. You are moving out of your previous comfort zone in dynamic and important ways, not always an easy thing to do.

There will be new demands and expectations placed upon you along with your everyday activities and duties.

One of the changes taking place is within you. It is the creation of the mind set of an internet entrepreneur. Fundamentally, this is the most important change of all.

You will be learning many new skills, acquiring a great deal of new information, and implementing new actions all along the way. But, again, the most important change will be developing the mind of an entrepreneur.

To accomplish this, you will be required to be responsible for your time while you are working with this course. We have asked that you commit a minimum of 8 to 15 hours a week while working in the development and launch of your internet business.

You would be wise to schedule that time into a planner. This will help you better plan your time and hold yourself accountable for your time commitment. If you are not getting the work done in your planned time, let us say 12 hours each week, then it is your responsibility to increase that time to whatever is required. This is what an entrepreneur does.

One of the most basic responsibilities you have in this regard is keeping your schedule with yourself, as these appointment you make with yourself are just as important as if you were meeting with your accountant, attorney or doctor.

With this in mind, we have drawn up these guide lines for meeting your goals and making consistent progress in this course.

1. You will set your own schedule. It is important that you keep your appointments.

2. If you are going to miss an appointment, you must reschedule it in your calendar. It's best when rescheduled within the same week.

Giving yourself flexibility in your time management to adjust for interruptions in your schedule for effective use of your time. Remember that using a pencil helps maintain your flexibility. The only times to miss are if you are going out of town on business or vacation, hospitalization or illness and of course unexpected events such as emergencies.

As you can see now, making the most of your time while working in this course is of great importance to you and your Internet business. We want to see you succeed and do well in this program and beyond as you continue to build your Internet business for years to come and enjoying the lifestyle you desire.

Ultimately, whether your business succeeds or not is primarily up to you.

Your Assignment Each Week or Period between Sessions

Do Not Read Far Ahead

It is recommended that you do not read too far ahead in advance, for example, if you are on module three, it may be confusing for you to be already reading modules five, six and seven. If you get too far ahead, it may be difficult to keep things in their proper perspective as you learn them. This also becomes too overwhelming for most.

Remember, one step at a time...

Each module builds on the next module, so it will work best to read the following module only after you have completed the assignments of the previous module. This assists you in putting into action the concepts you are learning through each module.

There’s No Business Like Your Business

That is the way you should think of your business, if you do not already. You see, if you do not put blood, sweat and tears into your business, it is guaranteed that no one else will.

So, Where Does it Start?

In the book, "The Millionaire Mind" by Thomas J. Stanley, the author interviews deca-millionaires. His research shows that these successful millionaires, all whom made it on their own, have some characteristics in common.

· They were average students and saw themselves as average. And because of that they figured they had to work harder than others to be successful, which they did.

· They did not listen to the nay-sayers, the doubters, the negative people around them that told them they could not do it.

So, if you see yourself as average, are willing to work hard and smart and can turn a deaf ear to the people around you who would pull you down and have you give up, you are in good company.

An Internet Business – What Does it Take to be Successful?

As we see it, there are three parts of a successful online business.

One – Build a Site Worth Visiting

There are three aspects of a site worth visiting.

· First, the site looks professional and polished. It looks like you know what you are doing. Your visual presentation is your statement of who you are as a business and of your business’s credibility. If your site does not look very good, you have shot your first opportunity with your visitor.

Not only does it need to look good, it needs to look GREAT! Have a certain “Wow!” factor that makes people want to stay and read what you have.

· Second, there are no spelling errors, typos, or grammatical mistakes. That is the very least of what you should present with your written content.

Beyond that, your copy should be compelling, capturing the visitor and carrying him or her through your site with motivating benefits, and real promises of improvements in his or her life, business, and/or relationships.

Writing compelling copy means you know your client, what his or her needs are and that you are here to help fulfill those needs, and better yet, exceed his or her expectations.

· Third, your site is easy to navigate so that the visitor quickly finds what they are seeking. Visitors do not want riddles and mysteries.

They want answers to their problems, needs, wants, desires and situations and they want them quickly and easily. Your goal is to make it as easy and quick as possible without missing any sales/benefit beats that motivate the visitor to do business with you.

Two – Marketing

On the Internet, that almost always means getting the search engines to work for you. Certainly, there are other marketing vehicles to bring traffic to your site. Last time we checked, 85% of Internet users who visit Web sites on the Internet are using search engines.

You will have the opportunity to learn more than you can presently imagine about search engines when the time comes. For right now, understand there are three basic strategies to successfully working with the search engines.

· First, select keyword phrases for the pages to be submitted to search engines. Ask yourself, when visitors use the search engines to find sites like mine, what keywords and/or phrases will they use? Knowing ahead of time what those keyword phrases are will be a great advantage to you as you write your web pages.

· Second, write the pages to meet the criteria of the different search engines. Search engines look for certain things – words in certain areas of the site and repeated certain numbers of time. (Again, this is an area you will get into in much greater depth later in coaching.) We do not write the way we believe the search engines will parce and index us. We write our pages in a way we know they are programmed to list sites.

· Third, aggressively submit your pages to the search engines. This is not a one or two time deal, like dating. This is a marriage! Long term commitment, actively involved, regular contact. Submitting your home page to the search engines will not do. You will find out that this is an ongoing process. Nevertheless, a process that, over time, can be simplified and minimized once you know what you are doing.

Three – Products and/or Services that Sell

We admit that occasionally some entrepreneurs new to the Internet shock us. Yes, shock us! It is as if they have a belief that there are millions of people out there just drooling to find their site and give them all their money for whatever they (the entrepreneur) has on his or her site.

Do you know of anyone out there who is just drooling to give you money for anything?

People are not dying to just give you money because you have a business site on the Internet. A person will buy from you when you have something valuable enough, presented in a desirable enough manner that your product/service meets a need, solves a problem, changes or improves a situation he or she has and provides a credible enough business image that there is enough belief of satisfactory fulfillment.

In other words, you got it; they want it; they believe they will get it; and it will do the job. Bingo! You got sales!!!

And in truth, as you begin, you are guessing.

Whenever anyone takes something to market on the internet, he or she is guessing. Some have more experience behind the guessing and others are better guessers, and still others are lucky at guessing. It still gets down to guessing.

The proof is in the pudding when you finally are getting the hits on your site.

BUT…!

You won’t get the hits unless you get the search engines to work for you, right?

And you won’t get visitors to stay and go through your site unless you build a site worth visiting, right?

AND…!

If you can build a site once worth visiting, can’t you do that, again? Absolutely!

If you can get the search engines to find your site so you are listed in the first 10 to 30, can’t you do that, again? Absolutely!

How many professional ball players do you know that hit a home run every time at bat? No one does, because no player does.

The point is, learn to fish. Learn the basic and essential skills of building a Web site worth coming to, getting the search engines to work for you so you are being listed in the top 10 or 20, worst case, top 30… learn how to do those things once, and you can keep doing it until you find, put together or create yourself your own home run site. Some hit it right off, for others it takes time.

What we really want to stress here is that by developing an entrepreneurial mind set, you will always be rich with ideas, which with persistent application will help make you rich, over time, materially.

Most people miss this one simple reality… half the fun is getting there. Because if you do not make it fun, you will, probably, never get there.

Work hard. Work smart. Have a lot of fun. Get a lot done...

We wish the very best to you and your Internet business,
