The book was written during the depression, a time when people were in very dire straits. It was intended to help people focus on solutions, to come up with ideas and to tap into a source of inspiration outside of themselves.
This, in an effort to help get the economy moving again.
The focus was on money, because that is what the people of the day needed, but the author states how the principles could be used in all aspects of one's life.
The author also states that if you are not ready and\or looking to make more money or do more with your life, then the secret would evade you.
I first read this book in 1980. I was confused as I did not "get" the secret, but found the book had told me something.
The book has had a profound impact on my life. It helped me nurture my entrepeneurial spirit, and though I cannot say I have attained any substantial financial success to date, it has given me almost 20 years of comfort and hope, knowing that whatever I set my mind to I can accomplish.
Several years ago (1988) I was looking at building a house. I hardly had 2 cents to rub together but that did not stop me in my desires to build a house for my new family. Using the principals taught in this book I managed to secure financing, teach myself the required carpentry and electrical skills, obtain the neccessary help and constructed a house that, by all who knew the circumstances, could not be built. The house ended up being appraised at over $250,000.00, of which I had well over 50% equity.
The principles in the book work, when you are ready to apply them.....read it only if you are ready and willing to work towards that which you are passionate about. It will give you the steps neccessary to succeed.
I have a new passion now and have purchased the lastest edition of this book. It has proven to me that it's principals work, and as I read it again, the power of the human mind is more abundantly clear than ever before. - Tony Gojevic from Vancouver, BC, Canada
